Wellness Wednesday - Jenna & Jenna BFF Story - Read & WATCH VIDEO

These two fabulous, joyful, and committed best friends were in my November challenge group. Jenna M. messaged me and was like I want to do your challenge and I am getting my best friend to do it too! I loved hearing about the extra support and accountability they made not only to the challenge group but to one another. They would talk daily about their food prep, meal plans, TEMPTATIONS, progress, and life as a mom doing this challenge. They even live across the country, Cali and Florida, and still managed to support one another. This is the type of support of every women needs and this is what we offer in our challenge groups. Loved getting to know both Jenna & Jenna and can’t wait to see where their story takes them!\
Jenna M’s Story

Well, I guess like most girls, I have always wanted that rockin' bod! I have never been overweight but I also have never felt super confident about my body. Then throw in 2 pregnancies and all the body changes that come with that and let's just say my confidence level was probably at an all-time low. I had lost all of my baby weight after baby #2 but my body just wasn't the same. Everything was jiggly! I have tried eating healthy and working out on my own and maybe made it a week or so. Or I would eat "kind of" healthy and workout a few days a week and expect to see results. From this challenge I have clearly learned you have to give 110% of you want results! It's crazy to think this challenge was only 3 weeks and I have seen a lot of changes in myself! I signed up with one of my best friends Jenna T. and I know she helped me stay more committed. I figured, I can do anything for 21 days! SO I have it my all and I a so happy with the results. I've lost 5 pounds and several inches off my body. I feel more confident. I feel more happy. I just feel better. I am excited to take everything I have learned and use it from here on out as a lifestyle, not a diet :)
My favorite thing about the challenge group was the meal plan provided and being able to ask you ANY questions at ANY time and you always got back to me so quickly. I loved knowing you had provided the meal plan and that you are very educated when it comes to nutrition.
ALI!!!! You have been a fabulous coach!!! I have been following you on FB and instagram and stalking your blog since before the Challenge. I saw that you knew your stuff on health and nutrition and that helped me make my decision to join your group! I loved that I could come to you with any questions and you would give me the facts! I will 100% recommend you to anyone and everyone. I think you are doing an awesome job!
And to you Jenna M....I have absolutely loved being your coach during this challenge and I cannot wait to see your growth during our next challenge together! Your comedic personality always had me laughing and I loved your commitment level to the group and to followed my meal plan to a "T" and that is hardcore girl. Again, I am so proud of you and you inspired me and many others around you. Keep up the amazing dedication, nothing will stop you!

In Jenna’s words, “I’m still in disbelief that I lost so many inches. I keep thinking I miss-measured! I feel amazing. I actually felt amazing after the very first day which I think is an amazing testament to this programs nutrition. It’s whole foods that your body craves and excels on. I feel stronger, leaner, and really well rounded and happy. The workouts were new everyday which kept things interesting and fresh each day. Tone & Tighten Tuesday - Terri's Story - Incredible Results

Terri’s Story
Terri is a wife and a mother to 2 teenage boys. She is a preschool teacher and is very active in the children's ministry at her church.
Here is her story, "I have been yoyo-ing with my weight for years. I know what to do, just needed a plan and a way to do it. I have tried all kinds of diets, but they fail. I would gain back more than I lost. This plan makes so much sense. Workouts are great and don't take hours of your time.
If I can do this, anyone can because I love food and don't like to exercise. This was the best way for me! The planning and prep was a huge key to my success. I also loved all of us encouraging each other.

Motivational Monday - Samantha's Story - Watch & Read

My story... I have always been the tall skinny girl that was able to eat anything... and then I turned 25 and it all changed! My metabolism needed a boost so I started working out. I've always been a relatively healthy eater, but portion control has always been a challenge. I started this challenge because I wanted to "reset" my body - clean eating, portion control, and workouts - sounded great to me! This challenge has been great - I've proven to myself that I can say no to unhealthy food choices and not feel deprived all the time, I have shown serious dedication and determination on getting the workouts done even when life makes it REALLY difficult, and I've seen RESULTS. I didn't lose the amount of weight I wanted to, but I learned that inches and the way your clothes fit is a far more important indicator!! I will definitely continue on with the eating habits I learned during this challenge and possibly modify to lose the extra pounds - but regardless I am very happy with my INCHES LOST!! My thighs and saddle bags have been my trouble zone and I can see big changes there! So exciting!

You offered all the support we needed, gave us encouragement and encouraged us to support one another as well, and you made yourself available for anything we really needed (like giving me extra help to figure out how to do a full week of the plan on the road!!). Motivational Monday - Tips to Surviving the Holidays!

 If you’re contemplating the perfect time to “cheat” on your nutritional plan then there’s no other perfect time or place than at a holiday party or event. The holidays mark a time when people make up every reason to justify inhaling an enormous plate of food they would normally never consider eating in one week, let alone one meal. Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years have all the elements necessary to throw you off your plan but they don't have to. Breaking your nutrition plan of clean eating and stopping your fitness routine will only make it that much harder to restart come January 1st, 2015. Baked goodies and holiday parties galore bombard us from November 27th until January 2nd making this the season of packing on the pounds. People can gain anywhere from one to 10 pounds in the short time period between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day…And I know I don’t want to gain 10lbs! But the great thing is, you CAN survive the holiday season, you can enjoy the festivities and indulge a bit without getting out of control. Being mindful of what you’re eating while continuing to exercise will keep you from ruining your health and fitness goals. Here are a few tips to keep you on track with your exercise and eating during the holiday season:
1.        Schedule you workouts: Every excuse will come at you during the holiday season not to workout!  Holiday family dinners, social gatherings, work parties, vacation, cold weather, and even the excuse to get healthy in the New Year will stop you from working out. But this is truly the MOST IMPORTANT time of the year to sweat and burn those extra calories! You need to schedule your workouts in like you would a doctor’s appointment and DON’T CANCEL!  It is for your own good! You need to put yourself first, your health first, and make your workouts a priority.  Working out will help you de-stress during the holiday season and keep your metabolism up and running while you eat those NAUGHTY FOODS at holiday festivities! Maybe before your Thanksgiving meal you run in a 5k like I am doing with my current challenge group or play some football with your family after you eat Christmas dinner. Do something to get active during the holidays don’t wait till 2015!
2.       Have a plan: Most holiday treats and foods are not healthy! Honey baked ham, cookies, casseroles, cakes, punches, eggnog, and pastas are not healthy at all! It is very rare to go to a holiday party and find a veggie or fruit tray anymore, they just don’t exist. So you need to come up with a plan with how you are going to BALANCE all of this NAUGHTY food during the holidays while still eating the NICE food. First and foremost if you aren’t at a party you should be trying to eat as clean and as healthy as possible knowing what the future holds for you. If you know that you are going to have two parties this weekend, allow yourself to have two NAUGHTY meals for the week and that is it. I am saying meals not DAYS! Binge eating Friday – Sunday is going to put on the weight and make you go into a food coma. Another way to have success with your eating is to “make special occasions special” meaning you don’t have to indulge at EVERY holiday party, just the special holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas, and New year’s. The third eating plan tip is to put a time cap on your eating. You have one hour to eat the foods at the party and then when time is up you are done. I am not saying stuff your face in 1 hour, but this stops you from eating ALL night long which can add up in calories. So establish boundaries and create a plan where you can have success with your eating. You will be happy you did!
3.       Don’t go to a party HUNGRY: Seriously when you are HANGRY, you eat everything in sight. Arriving at the party with a happy belly will keep you from filling up on the “temporary bliss” of instant gratification which only leads to guilty and a stomach ache the next morning!So before you go to a party or holiday shopping, pack a healthy snack to take with you and eat something little before you go. Drink a protein shake beforehand (my favorite is shakeology cause it curbs your cravings), bring some nuts and an apple with you shopping, just be prepared to not become ravenous!
4.      Watch those drinks: Hot cocoa, whipped cream, eggnog, and holiday cocktails are liquid carbs and calories! You need to either limit yourself with the drinks or make a tradeoff with food items. If you are going to have that hot chocolate with whip cream don’t eat so many cookies! As for alcoholic drinks, stick with one specialty drink if possible and make sure to DRINK A LOT OF WATER! People who drink more water actually eat less food, which means less calories.

5.       Portions!!!! When you are out at a restaurant or at a party browse the food and or menu and figure out what your healthy options are to eat. Always fill up on protein, vegetables, and fruit first!!!! Avoid the carbs if at all possible until the end of the night, then allow yourself to have 1 treat…any dessert you want! Before heading back for a second plate, drink a glass of water and see how you feel.  Another tip is to limit your plates, like you will only eat 1 or 2 plates of food and that is it and use the small plates for more portion controlJ Rather than filling up your plate with double servings of every dish in sight maybe sample just a bite of each of the foods you like. This way you still get to taste what you want to eat without devouring all of the food at the party.

6.       Bring your own: If you are invited to a party bring along your favorite healthy dish and maybe you can inspire some of your friends to do the same J
Bottom line is it all comes down to discipline and self-control, how bad do you really need to eat those foods and is it worth it? Some of my challengers have worked so hard to lose weight and putting 5lbs back on from the holidays is two weeks’ worth of working out and eating clean! Indulge occasionally, schedule your workouts, plan for nutritious meals, and try to keep a healthy mind-set.

Foodies - Best HomeMade Clean Salsa Recipe

For anyone that knows me, I LOVE Mexican food...tacos, guacamole, chips and dip, name it I will eat it! But I have learned, well my hubby has learned, to make amazing clean and healthy Mexican food that tastes better than any restaurant! Here is one of my favorite salsa recipes! ENJOY:)

 My Hubby’s Red and Green Salsa

Three green tomatillos
A bunch of scallions
A quarter of a white onion
Half red onion
Two green jalapeƱos
Five garlic cloves
One can of organic diced tomatoes fire roasted
1 Green poblano pepper
One Shallot
Handful of cilantro
Juice of 2 lime
1 tbsp Organic beef bouillon
1tsp Cumin
Salt pepper to taste

1. Bake scallions, poblano, jalapenos, garlic, and onions in the oven at 400° for 15 minutes

2. In the food processor blend the can of diced fire roasted tomatoes
3. Once blended put in the roasted vegetables, Cut off the stems of the jalapenos and peppers, pull off the skin on the garlic. And add 1 tablespoon a bouillon.
4. Blend completely in the food processor put in a bowl and squeeze two limes, add 1 teaspoon of cumin, and salt and pepper to taste.

Wellness Wednesday - What's the best protein shake powder?

Pretty much everyone has had a protein shake! It can sometimes be very overwhelming when you are looking to purchase a protein powder because there are so many to choose from. I have probably tried every protein shake you could try. I have tried the Optimum Nutrition All-Natural Whey, Plant Fusion Plant Based Protein, Tone It Up Brown Rice Protein, Sun Warrior Vegan Protein , Garden of Life Raw Protein, Shakeology Protein and probably a few more that I can't remember. A few of them tasted awful to drink, while others tasted great but did not have nutritional value except protein, and then others tasted amazing and had nutritional substance.

In saying that...look at all these labels and tell me what one looks like it would be the best protein shake to drink.

So you should have chosen OPTION D and that protein is SHAKEOLOGY! Shakeology has 75 extra ingredients made up of superfoods and antioxidants...pretty much a vitamin shake! I can say I was a skeptic at first.  I was hesitant to even buy it but once I did my research (you know I love my scientific data as being a registered nurse), I discovered it was buy far the healthiest protein shake out there! Some of you might say that it doesn't have as much protein as the standard whey protein, yes you are right, but all of these extra ingredients are WAY MORE beneficial to you than just extra protein. Plus you should be eating other complete proteins such as eggs, chicken, turkey, and fish.
And this pictures shows what 1 serving of Shakeology is equivalent to...pretty amazing right!
Some of my challengers that have incorporated Shakeology into their daily diet have lost weight, reduction in cravings, increase in energy and stamina, promoting of  healthy digestion and regularity, clearer complexion, and better quality sleep.

Tone&Tighten - VIDEO Time

Santa Clause is coming to town... along with all the holiday sweets you eat and the extra pounds you put on over the holidays!! But not this year, we are going to change that!!!
