Motivation - UNGLUED

http://www.amazon.com/Unglued-Making-Choices-Midst-Emotions/dp/0310332796
My favorite summer book has been UNGLUED by Lysa Terkeurst. The book is about learning how to make wise choices in the midst of your raw emotions.  I am pretty sure any person you ask would agree that women have a tendency to be very emotional causing them to say irrational things, make unwise choices, and say things that they should never say!  We all have been there before when your kids or husband are driving you crazy and you literally can't take any more and you just EXPLODE! If that has never happened to you then something is wrong with you! As women we are so interconnected to EVERYTHING which means our emotions are connected to EVERYTHING.

When summer break began I started to realize that I was letting my emotions get the best of me in multiple situations of my life.  And that is when I decided to start reading UNGLUED.
This book has opened my eyes on how badly I can react and non-react to people in my life like my kids, spouse, parents, family, and friends. UNGLUED simply teaches you how to gain control over your emotions and learn how to have "soul integrity".

One of my favorite sections of the book is the chapter called The Prisoners. This chapter discusses the labels we put on ourselves and how we are an "unfinished sculpture".  In this paragraph Lysa the author is writing about the David by Michelangelo.

Then I turned and looked down the corridor at the David, the statue fully chiseled by a master artist. And as I walked toward it, I whispered, "O God, chisel me. I don't want to be locked in my hard places forever. I want to be FREE.  I want to be all that you have in mind for me to be...God doesn't allow the unglued moments of our lives to happen so we will label ourselves and stay stuck. He allows the unglued moments to make us aware of the chiseling that needs to be done...Let God chisel. Let him work on your hard places so you can leave the dark places of being stuck and come into the light of who he designed you to be. God is calling us out of darkness, out from those places we thought would never get better, out of being STUCK" (UNGLUED, P.37).

Every one of us has our own issues, labels that we have placed on ourselves...standards that we hold ourselves too. But what has God called you to do and be. This paragraph made me realize I want to be free from those labels I've placed on myself such as "PERFECT MOM", "PERFECT WIFE, "PERFECT FRIEND", "BEST STUDENT", "BEST EMPLOYEE", "BEST PARTY PLANNER", "OVERACHIEVER", "PERFECTIONIST", "MOST PUT TOGETHER", "BEST DRESSED", "BEST IN SHAPE"...You name it I have probably labeled myself that! There is nothing wrong with striving to be all that you can be, God has called us to work hard and honor Him in all we do. But we all know the difference! I am constantly growing and changing to be a better wife, mother, and friend. Every day I fail but I get back up and I ask God to take those "unglued" moments and make me a better person, a better woman of God. So I want to encourage all of you that read post today to first read UNGLUED, second, take control of your emotions, and third let God chisel!

Foodie - Easy Crockpot Chicken & Healthy Chocolate Peanut Butter Bites

Today, I have two yummy and super easy recipes for you.
The crockpot chicken is my go-to meal that I usually make every Saturday or Sunday night so I have chicken throughout the entire week. This short and simple recipe was suggested to me by my friend Lacy with a few added ingredients for taste.

Crockpot Chicken:
Ingredients:
8 large chicken breasts
palmful of sea salt
3 minced garlic cloves
2 spoonfuls of organic chicken bouillon paste

Directions:
Place all of the ingredients into crockpot
Fill with water to the top so all the chicken is completely covered
Set timer for 10-12 hours on low
Once the chicken is done cooking, taking the chicken out and shred it in a big bowl, then pour 1 cup of the juice from the crockpot over the chicken to keep it moist
Last, strain the liquid from the crockpot...it tastes amazing and I use it as a base for soup or freeze it for the future.

Most of the time I eat the chicken with sautéed spinach or eat it on a salad with rice and beans, greek yogurt, cilantro/onion/lime juice salsa, and some hot sauce
Yummy shredded chicken

Healthy Chocolate Peanut Butter Bites

I have a major sweet tooth and this definitely is one of my "fixes" and the entire family loves too! Adapted from Detoxinista.com so just refer to pictures for recipe.

Enjoy:)

Motivational Monday - Lean On, Trust, & Be Confident

Happy Monday everyone!!! This afternoon while I was taking some time to myself  to read my devotion two verses stood out to me that I wanted to share with you.
The first one is Proverbs 3:5, "Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heard and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding".  This verse has always been one of my favorites and so applicable to our daily life. We all have trials and tribulations that we must endure and in those times we usually feel weak and tired where we cannot do or give any more.  But this verse is giving us the solution to when we feel weak, burnt out, and tired...to LEAN ON him, TRUST in him, AND be CONFIDENT in him...even if the problem or answer doesn't make any sense to you, it does to him. He will direct your steps and lay the plan out for you, but you have to do your part and BELIEVE in him.  There have been many times in my life when I ask God "WHY"....why me, why this, when, where, what, who??? The questions are never-ending in my head and only produce worry and anxiety.  So when you start questioning God's plan for you life, stop questioning, and say out loud "God I trust you, I lean on you, and I am confident in your plan for my life"! It is not the fix all so that is where your FAITH comes in but the more you speak truth into your life the more real it will become.
The second verse is Isaiah 30:15, "..."In quietness and in trusting confidence shall be your strength..."This says it ALL for me.  I am a type A personality, a "busy body", nonstop, list-maker, and rest is NOT in my vocabulary.  But with age comes wisdom and with 3 children comes more wisdom...and I have learned that I HAVE TO rest or I get burnt out. I lose my internal peace and lose both peace and patience with my kids when I don't make time to "rest".  For me resting is finding quiet time to read my devotional book, read the bible, listen to a podcast or worship music, or even just laying down in bed for 20 minutes with no noise!!! Rest is good for your soul, your body, mind, and spirit.  God is saying directly in this verse that when you are QUIET you will regain your STRENGTH. And for those of you like me finding "quiet" time can be very hard because you just don't let yourself rest. I have learned though that I am a better wife, mother, daughter, and friend when I rest....I gain clarity and my body and mind is able to turn "off" for a few minutes and relax.  In society today, everything and everyone says "GO GO GO"...we are all on this never-ending hamster wheel and bottom line it is not healthy for us or our family and friends around us to live that type of lifestyle; it is an unstainable lifestyle.  So I want to encourage you all to GET OFF the hamster wheel and find a place to BE QUIET.  Set an alarm on your phone for 5,10,20 minutes and turn your phone on silent, cut out all distractions and be still. Let yourself be strengthened!

Motivation - Make the most of your time!

Joyce Meyer has been extremely influential in my life over the past 2 years! Day 37 in her 365 day devotion app it talked about making the most of your time! I need to remind myself daily to make the most of my time; it's so easy to get pulled into multiple directions as a woman, wife, mother, daughter, and friend. If you struggle with this as well be encouraged that it's easy to get back on track, you just have to make the decision too!

Making the Most of Your Time

Time really does fly, doesn't it? On the other hand, in some situations, it may seem like time crawls! No matter how fast or slow it feels like time goes by, each of us only has a certain amount of time on this earth. With that in mind, I want to ask you, what are you doing with your time?

Time is such a gift from God! I see every day how He takes His time to make us what He wants us to be. And then, in His mercy and grace, He gives us time to get in agreement with what He's doing in our lives so we can experience His goodness. What a loving God!

So, ask yourself, "Am I in agreement with what God is doing in me? Or, am I struggling and fighting, impatiently trying to do things my way?"

I can assure you, if you're struggling with God, you're just wasting your time, but if you're in agreement with Him, you're using your time for great things.

Remember, God is gracious. He takes His time. We might think He's taking too long when, in His goodness, He is just waiting for us to line up with the work He's doing in us. He won't rush. He is patient. Our struggling only delays our progress.

So maybe this is a good time to change your outlook and start looking ahead to a new way of doing things, a new vision for life, a renewed faith and trust in the One who is always at work in us, and always for our good.

My encouragement to you is to trust God and spend your time getting in agreement with what He is doing in your life. Let Him define your purpose. Know in your heart that He has great plans, and no matter how much time He takes, He loves you, and He always has your best interest at heart.

Prayer Starter: Lord, I want to spend my time agreeing with, not fighting, the great work You are accomplishing in me. I thank You that when I start to waste time, You always remind me that You love me and that Your timing is always best.

Look carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people), Making the very most of the time [buying up each opportunity], because the days are evil. (‭Ephesians‬ ‭5‬:‭15-16‬ AMP)

Motivational Monday - Don't Slash the Other Tire!

I saw this on Pinterest and I realized how we all have "slashed the other tire" before! Whether it's eating right, working out, shopping less, or just learning to be more positive we all have bad days! We all have had that day where the kids are driving you crazy, your house is a mess, or you ate an entire chocolate cake in one sitting!  Believe me yesterday was one of those days when I nearly cried when I saw empty muffin wrappers and crumbs all over my living room and I just couldn't pick up after one more person!   But the great thing is we can hit the "reset" button ! It's a new day and you can choose to say no to that chocolate cake and have more patience with your kids. God shows us grace and mercy daily and we have the ability to start over! Today choose to start over, clean start today! I know for me I need to have more patience and peace with my children as having 3 little ones home for the summer can be CRAZY! So don't slash the other tire, patch the other tire and fill it back up!
