SKINNY to STRONG...Transformation Story...A MUST SEE!

I get a lot of emails from people saying "I don't need to lose weight would your program work for me?". And my answer is YES. People are not just in my group to lose weight, but to get strong and gain muscle and to get healthy from the inside-out.
One of my challengers this month was already skinny but really wanted to "tone-up" and that is exactly what she did. She went from SKINNY to STRONG in just 21 days. She had multiple Christmas events, married, mother of 2 kids, and was even sick and still worked out for 21 DAYS IN A ROW & followed my meals plans. And guess what she saw RESULTS! I am so proud of this challenger and she did an absolutely incredible job in my NAUGHTY or NICE challenge group...And I can't wait to see her results from my January challenge group NEW YEAR, NEW YOU.

In her words, "I am a stay at home mother of 2 under 5. My story is I simply fell into a rut that I think is so easy to fall into. I viewed exercise as a twice a week chance to be out by myself instead of something I needed to keep me going. I was dragging myself through each day on low energy and a short temper. I would be easily swayed into a glass or more of wine each night to combat my stress and the calories were adding up. I wasn't taking care of me while taking care of my family. I have truly learned that it takes almost no additional time in my week to take care of myself in order to be a happier, healthier, more awesome mom and wife. I have energy and I feel great. My physical transformation was remarkable to me and my husband has flooded me with compliments. My kids love seeing me work out and have enjoyed many of the healthy foods I was eating with me. I love to learn and grow on a daily basis and I feel like I am learning something new about my body and how nutrition works on our bodies. I have learned that I can still make dinner for my family every night. I can still participate in dinners out, parties with friends, vacations and family functions. I can still have play dates, run the kids to school and activities and have time for me. I know now that I need a plan for these situations instead of allowing my gas tank to run on empty (or just coffee). I am filling my fridge, freezer and pantry with healthy choices that will be easy to grab and I am sharing these choices with friends and at parties. It is possible and its really not that hard once you set your mind to doing something and holding yourself accountable".
 
And her thoughts on the challenge group, "Amazing! I really needed someone to push me in the right direction and you did just that but not in an intimidating way but more of a nurturing way. You were real, upfront, honest and clear with expectations. It was hard for me at first to get used to the social media aspect of the group because I am an in and out Facebook user. I get it now, its just everyone checking in with each other and the support was awesome".
 
K, again I am so proud of you and your commitment to this challenge group was incredible!!! I loved seeing all of your "selfies" in our group and you displayed so much self-control and discipline. I know you are inspiring everyone around you to get healthier! Keep up the fabulous job and 2015 is going to be your best year yet INSIDE-OUT!

Foodie Friday - Grilled Salmon with Avocado Salsa

I love this salmon recipe...simply clean, green, and full of health omega 3's!
 
Grilled Avocado Salmon
Ingredients:
• 2 lbs salmon, cut into 4 pieces
• 1 tbs olive oil (I used light extra virgin olive oil)
• 1 tsp salt
• 1 tsp ground cumin
• 1 tsp paprika powder
• 1 tsp onion powder
• ½ tsp ancho chili powder
• 1 tsp black pepper
• for the Avocado salsa:
• 1 avocado, sliced
• ½ small red onion, sliced
• Juice from 2 limes
• 1-2 tbs finely chopped cilantro (depending on how big of a cilantro lover you are)
• Salt to taste
 
Instructions:
1. Mix the salt, chili powder, cumin, paprika, onion and black pepper together, rub the salmon fillets with olive oil and this seasoning mix
2. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
3. Pre-heat the grill.
4. Combine the avocado, onion, cilantro, lime juice, and salt in a bowl and mix well, chill until ready to use.
5. Grill the salmon to desired doneness. (I grilled for about 5 minutes)
6. Top with avocado salsa and enjoy!

MY "AH HA" Moment that made me who I am today!

 We all have that "Ah, Ha" moment where we realize that something has to change. I bet you all could tell me one time in your life when something changed you in a way that you would never be the same person again. Well, I had that moment in June of 2012.
My 3rd child was 6 weeks at the time, I had two other children under the age of 5, my husband was traveling for work, I had insomnia, I was breastfeeding, I was a grad student, and my hormones were all over the place. And on a Monday morning I experienced my first panic attack and it was life-changing and my life has never been the same since that day. God had opened my eyes and made me realize that my priorities in life were not in line with his and that something had to change...I HAD TO CHANGE. And that is when my recovery of panic attacks and anxiety began. I had to completely uproot BAD habits that I had developed over the course of my life and I had to start developing NEW HEALTHY habits that made me a better women, wife, mother, daughter, and friend.  The first 3 months were very difficult but I was making PROGRESS not PERFECTION. I was becoming a NEW ME. 
There were two things my counselor said to me that have profoundly changed my life...1) You are not SUPERWOMAN and God never intended you to be and 2) Start working out!
Those two statements helped transform me into who I am today. I had to let the standards go I placed upon myself and ask HIM what his standard was for my life. And then I had to figure out a way to workout while juggling my role as a wife and a mother of a breastfeeding newborn, a 3 year old and a 5 year old.  And it was not easy. But I made it a priority for my health and MY FAMILY. I had to be the best women, wife, and mother God had called me to be. And my life has been forever changed since that "AH HA" moment. No, it has not been easy and yes, I still struggle every day with wanting to be SUPERWOMAN and learning to DE-STRESS....but I am working on it and I am constantly becoming a better ME...IMPERFECTLY BALANCED in all ways spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically.
 
So I want to ask you right now to evaluate your life and what is your "AH HA" moment. What is it going to take for you to change your life, change your health inside-out like I did?

Wellness Wednesday - Drink that Shot!

I absolutely LOVE apple cider vinegar! There are so many different ways that you can use it but my favorite way is to be used for your health. 

Some benefits of drinking Apple Cider Vinegar are:

1. Facilitates weight loss - suppresses appetite and increases metabolism
2. Improves mood
3. Helps alleviate stomach aches and pains, kills bacteria and helps with muscle spasms
4. Helps sore throat by killing bacteria
5. Studies show it can lower cholesterol
6. Prevents indigestion
7. Kills bacteria in sinus infections and the common cold
8. Balances your PH levels in your body to be more alkaline than acidic
9. Rids toxins in your body
I drink ACV every morning!  Do not drink ACV by itself, you must dilute it!!! See my favorite recipes below.
 
Here are two ways that I drink my ACV every morning....Cayenne pepper and cinnamon are  amazing spices for your metabolism and helps facilitate fat loss.  I love fresh organic pineapple juice too because it has anti-inflammatory properties, aids in digestion, helps with kidney health and is packed with vitamins and antioxidants. With lots of B Vitamins, pineapple is a natural energy booster too! And raw local honey can help with season allergies.
Spicy Meta-D Shot
1 tbsp. of raw unfiltered organic Apple cider vinegar
-6 oz. of water
-2 oz. organic apple juice or lemon juice (I prefer lemon because of detox properties)
-1 tsp. cinnamon
-Small sprinkle of cayenne pepper
 
Mix, Stir, and Drink! 
 
Honey Pineapple Shot:
1/2 tbsp. raw local honey
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
4 oz all natural pineapple juice
juice of 1/4 lime

Foodie - I love TACOS

 
Flank steak tacos
Created by Chef Hubby
1.5 lbs of flank steak
3 Jalapeño peppers
Chipotles in adobo sauce (can in Mexican section of grocery store)
1 red onion
Cilantro
Garlic
2 Mangos
1 Peach
2 oranges
5 limes
Red or white cabbage
organic corn Tortillas

Bibb lettuce if you want to use as the tortilla
Small cup of plain Greek yogurt

Organic tamari
Raw honey
EVOO
For marinade:
Zest 2 oranges into a bowl using only the orange parts and none of the white.  Squeeze the juice of both oranges into the bowl 
Zest 2 limes and juice as well
Smash and chop 2 large cloves of garlic
Rough Chop 2 jalapeños and add, remove seeds depending on how spicy you want it
Chop 2 of the chipotles in adobo and add
Add 2tbs tamari soy sauce, 2tbs of honey, 2tbs of olive oil, 1 tbs of ground black pepper, salt to taste
Whisk to combine ingredients and combine with steak in a pan or large ziplock bag for at least 2 hours or up to 8.

Remove steak and excess marinade. Grill on high heat for 4-6 minutes per side.  The goal is to leave some pink. Remove from grill and let rest for 5 minutes to allow juices to settle.

Slice across the grain as thinly as possible with your sharpest knife. Do not slice with the grain or the meat will be tough.
For the mango salsa:
Finely chop 1 clove of garlic
Squeeze the juice of 2 limes
Chop a small handful of cilantro
Chop a half an onion
Peel and chop 2 mangos and 1 peach into bite size pieces
Remove seeds and chop 1 jalapeño
Add 1/2 teaspoon of cumin and salt to taste
Stir and combine all ingredients.

For the chipotle sauce:
Combine 2 chipotles in adobo sauce with a half cup of plain Greek yogurt in a blender and combine till smooth. Add water for desired consistency

Assemble tacos with steak and mango salsa and chipotle sauce. Add cabbage on top.

Measure everything with your containers…premeasure your protein, if you use tortilla make sure to account for the carbs for the day and measure the salsa for your purple container. The cabbage counts for the veggie container. And you can use 2 tsp of the Greek yogurt dressing. You may sub a yellow container from earlier that day to eat more of food items at this meal.

Any leftover food you can use for your other meals the week or use for you family:)

Crockpot Shredded Beef Tacos (may sub with chicken)

Ingredients:
Organic all natural fresh orange juice
1 yellow onion
Can of adobo chipotles in sauce
Organic beef bouillon if making shredded chicken use chicken bouillon
Tamari sauce
Chili powder
pepper
Cumin garlic
Honey
Organic London broil, flank or sirloin steak (we used organic London cause on sale)
Bibb lettuce
Purple cabbage
Plain Greek yogurt
Mango salsa recipe above for top!

Directions:
Combine 1/4 cup orange juice, 1/2 yellow onion chopped finely, 3 chipotles in adobo chopped, and 1tbs beef bouillon into the bottom of crock pot and mix.
Put steak on top in a single layer

Pour 1/4 cup tamari sauce, sprinkle chili powder, salt, cumin and 4 cloves of fresh minced garlic, and black pepper over top of steak.  Lastly add a 1/4 cup honey drizzled over top
Cook on low for at least 6 hours and up to 8.

Shred steak with 2 forks. Pick a lean cut of steak like London broil or flank or sirloin. Almost anything can be used because the crock pot will make it tender.

MAKE MANGO SALSA, chop cabbage, then assemble on Bibb lettuce. Top with salsa and 1-2 tsp of Greek yogurt

"I have been struggling with my weight for a long time now. I never had an issue till I hit around 24-25 years old. Things just started to pile up and being that I never had the issue before I was not sure how to truly go about removing all the weight I kept gaining. This 21 day program made it easy for me to see that I can lose weight, not be stuck in a gym, and have fun doing it. So far I have lost 5lbs and 7 1/2 inches. I absolutely LOVE it when a wife & husband get healthy together. Kayla signed up for my November challenge group with the intention that she would get healthy and in better shape, but before she knew it her husband was asking to drink her shakeology and eating her new healthy meals she had prepared! “It was fun to be in such a great group of girls and have continued support from each other and our coach. Being held accountable really helped me stick to the plan. I was excited to do the challenge because I had been really slacking on exercising and making time for myself. I am a busy mom and wife and sometimes get so caught up in the day to day routine that I put myself last. I was making excuses and not taking care of me. Having Ali as a coach was great because she gave me all the tools to succeed. The meal plan was great and this was very important for my weight loss. I lost 4 pounds and 3.5 inches in the waist. My clothes are fitting much better and that makes me feel so great. After having a baby your body really changed and I didn't think I could get it back again. Well this challenge proves anything is possible with hard work and dedication. My hubby also lost 14 pounds just by changing his diet. He is feeling so much better and motivates me as well. Ali you were a great coach and gave us everything and more to succeed, that is why I signed up for the next challenge as well. Thanks for your encouragement and great clean recipes”.

My November Favorites

1. Boots - I love winter because I get to wear boots...in Florida we might have 3 months of boot weather then back to flip flops or sneakers for me! Here are my fav for November.

2. Leggings - I ABSOLUTELY love leggings. These are probably the most comfortable clothing item I wear besides a maxi dress! Right now my go-to Hue leggings are these from Nordstrom!

3. Workout Tank - Yes, I am ecstatic that I now can wear MY OWN workout tank top and I LOVE IT! Who says you can't look cute when you workout:)

4. Crossbody purse - I love purses and I love big purses, but lately I just can't carry anything else, so I have been using this fabulous purse this month and its still super stylish and cute!

5. Lipstick - I might have too many lipsticks, but a girl truly cannot have too many. This is my new favorite color! You will love it, a little bit of pink but not too much for every day wear.

8. La Croix Coconut Water - Drink obsession right now and always. You can buy at any grocery store...pretty much anyone I tell to drink it becomes obsessed too!
9. Book of the Month - This books helps you learn how to say NO and when to choose your BEST YES...something I struggle with every day because I try to do EVERYTHING...what women doesn't struggle with that.

10. Moto Jacket - I love a good jacket that isn't too heavy that you can layer with a cute top underneath and not be too hot! I absolutely love this jacket and might wear it too much!
